She was told her career was over. Instead, she built a healthcare empire.
Dr. Sara Saeed Khurram is the co-founder of Sehat Kahani, one of Pakistan’s largest telemedicine platforms.
In South Asia, there is a phenomenon known as the "Doctor Bride" where thousands of women graduate medical school every year, only to leave the workforce after marriage or motherhood due to cultural pressure or rigid hospital hours.
Sara lived through the edges of this reality. After years of training, she found herself struggling with postpartum depression and effectively out of a job due to pregnancy.
Instead of quitting, she built a bridge: Sehat Kahani.
It's a telemedicine app designed to solve two challenges at once:
▪️For Patients: It connects underserved rural communities to top-tier healthcare via a network of nurse-assisted "e-clinics" and a mobile app.
▪️For Doctors: It brings qualified female physicians back into the workforce by allowing them to practice remotely from their homes, on their own terms.
The impact has been extraordinary:
- Over 4m consultations delivered
- 1.6M app users
- 7M people served through corporate programs
- 7,600 trained doctors (predominately female) in the network
Sara had the courage to redesign a broken system. Now that’s powerful.
