She built an opportunity where no one else was looking.
Nour Al Hassan, the CEO of Tarjama- a company that recently raised $15M in Series A funding- reshaping how the Arabic world creates and localizes content.
In my conversation with Nour, we talked about everything from the future of Arabic AI to the simple, powerful truth behind her mission: “Women don’t need empowerment. Women are empowered - they just need the opportunity.”
She launched Tarjama in 2008 after seeing companies struggle to find high-quality Arabic translation. What began with a small team of remote female linguists is now one of MENA’s fastest-rising language-technology companies.
Earlier in law and consulting, she saw slow multilingual communication stall decisions - pushing her to build technology that delivers accuracy, cultural nuance, and speed
Today, she leads a team building machine-translation engines, subtitling tools, and enterprise-grade Arabic AI designed for 30+ dialects and 55+ languages.
One moment that stayed with me was her story about discovering highly educated women - even PhDs - stuck at home without opportunities. She built Tarjama around them long before remote work was mainstream, creating flexible, high-skill jobs across the region.
Recognized by Forbes Middle East, she stands at the intersection of language, culture, and AI - building technology that doesn’t just translate, but protects and elevates the richness of Arabic.
